    Keynote Speaker: BARBARA MISTICK

    Barbara Mistick, co-Author of STRETCH – How to Future-Proof Yourself for Tomorrow’s Workplace.

    Barbara Mistick became Wilson College’s 19th President in 2011.  She is the architect of the Wilson Today plan, which made history pioneering the nation’s first loan buy-back program and brought the designation of “tuition hero” to the college.  Over the course of her 30-year career, Dr. Mistick has been an entrepreneur, educator and leader at institutions such as the H.J. Heinz School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, and at various businesses she managed and/or founded.  Her new book, Stretch: How to Future-Proof Yourself for Tomorrow’s Workplace, was designated as an Amazon Editor’s Pick and ranked #12 on the 800-CEO-READ’s Best Seller list.

    In this keynote, Barbara Mistick will discuss the research and findings on how to Future-Proof Your Career, followed by a Question and Answer session.  Ms. Mistick will follow the keynote with a book signing.  The first 150 registered and paid attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the book. 

    Bob Baird most recently served as the chief information officer of United Educators, a member-owned insurance company that provides liability coverage and risk management services to more than 1,200 U.S. non-profit colleges, universities, and independent and public K-12 schools. Baird also had a 20-year career with the U.S. Navy, where his extensive record of service included a role as a comptroller for the submarine force in the Navy’s Pacific Fleet and as the CFO for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program, the largest acquisition program in the history of the Department of Defense. Baird holds a master’s degree in business administration from George Washington University and a master’s of science degree from The Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. He also has earned a graduate certificate in knowledge management from George Washington University, an executive MBA certificate from the University of Virginia and certification as a Project Management Professional and as an Associate Business Continuity Planner.


     

    Lauren Barnes 2017

    Lauren Barnes is the Director of Information Governance at S&P Global, with the mandate to establish a global sustainable information governance program. Prior positions have been Vice President for Records & Information Management at Credit Suisse and at Lehman Brothers, with the primary responsibility for the management of the firm’s electronic records. In addition to managing the records management program in the US for American Express, Barnes has worked as a consultant for records management software provider and for a national information management consulting firm. For both companies, Barnes managed clients’ projects in banking and financial institutions, government agencies and law firmsproviding records program gap analysis, records strategy roadmap, policy and file plan development, process improvement and data mapping.

    Barnes is currently an Adjunct Professor at Queens College teaching in the Graduate School Library and Information Studies. Active in ARMA International, Barnes is on the ARMA Metro NY Chapter Committees for Professional Development and Membership. She holds a BFA from New York University and a MLIS with a Certificate in Archival Management from the Palmer School for Library and Information Science at Long Island University with honors. She is a lifetime member of Beta Phi Mu, the International Library and Information Studies Honor Society and a Certified Records Manager.

     

    Brian Corbin is Vice President, Assistant General Counsel within the Litigation department at JPMorgan Chase. He serves on the leadership team of Legal Discovery Management, an in-house group that advises and coordinates with internal and external counsel in connection with the discovery process for JPMC’s litigation matters, regulatory inquiries, and investigations. In his role as internal discovery counsel, Brian leads a multinational team of discovery specialists and project managers, overseeing several programs related to legal preservation, information governance, retention policy, and data protection issues arising from cross-border discovery. Prior to joining JPMC, Brian worked with managed services provider Clutch Group in Bangalore, India, and the law firm of Covington & Burling LLP in Washington, D.C.

    Cortellesi

    Paul Cortellesi will be discussing the transformation that patient medical records have endured over the past twenty years.  Drawing on his experiences as patient, provider, and information systems administrator, he will offer his insights into the unique challenges posed by medical records and how the future will be transformed by Big Data analytics, the cloud, and the move toward a persistent online presence for each of us.

    Coulson Head

    Jim Coulson, Managing Director, Morae Legal Information and Discovery Management, has over three decades of information management experience, including founding two consulting firms and building Huron Consulting’s global RIM practice, as Managing Director. He was a key member of the ARMA International committees responsible for developing the Generally Accepted Recordkeeping Principles (GARP), the supporting GARP Maturity Model and GARP Audit Programs, and the development of the ARMA IG Professional exams. Mr. Coulson is a Certified Records Manager (CRM), a Fellow of ARMA International (FAI) and a recipient of the Emmett Leahy Award, considered the highest global award in the field of records and information management.

    Dawson

    James Dawson is a Director in the New York office of KPMG LLP’s Information Governance and Strategy Advisory Services practice. James has over 30-years of experience in supporting information governance for corporate legal departments, regulatory recordkeeping, electronic discovery, supervision, surveillance compliance transformation services and related data governance. James has helped corporate counsel meet regulatory recordkeeping including Dodd-Frank, Title VII accountability and transparency, along with books and records immutability requirements for regulations such as 17a3-4 and related write-once, read-many (WORM) compliance. He has helped firms assess enterprise content management solutions, manage complex information lifecycle issues and navigate the processes and systems to control information assets and meet defensible data reduction for corporate general counsel. James has been responsible for information governance in several industries and verticals including several multi-terabyte data investigations, global privacy assessments, cyber investigations and cross country records management assessments. James has supported global risk mitigation and has assessed datasets and performed diagnostics for defensible dispositions.

    James has provided corporate review and assessment for internal audit and compliance departments for complex global institutions. James has assessed regulatory citations, financial records, legal data, trading communications and related Records Retention and Disposition schedules, matured corporate internal audit Records and created accurate record harvesting processes for corporate legal departments. James has assisted with the index and search of several hundred terabytes of corporate compliance records assets. James has built information governance responsibility models for global corporations with multiple data management control structures and stakeholders. James has advised counsel on cyber security and privacy litigation, the remediation of business critical information assets including data credibility, data domicile, data dictionaries, cross-country data sharing and privacy challenges in the “right to be forgotten” within enterprise systems for several top 100 corporations in his information governance career.

    Sofia Empel

    Sofia Empel, Ph.D., IGP, CRM is the Director, Information Governance at a financial services company in the New York metropolitan area. Her experience includes all aspects of records and information management program development, training, technology implementation, and other analytical services. Dr. Empel frequently teaches, writes, and speaks on information governance and RIM related topics.

     

    Gomes

    Richard Gomes is the recently retired Director of the Citi Center for Culture, headquartered in New York. He has over 35 years of experience in information governance, and brings a standards and compliance-centric perspective to the development and pragmatic implementation of information policies, standards, and control processes.  Prior to this role, Richard served 5 years as the bank's Global Head of Information Governance, a governance risk and compliance role with global responsibility for the firm's conformance with legal and regulatory information-management and data privacy requirements.

    Sabrina Guenther Frigo is Lead Counsel for Privacy and Data Management at CUNA Mutual Group.  Prior to joining CUNA Mutual Group, Ms. Guenther Frigo was a member of Jenner & Block LLP's Privacy & Information Governance Practice.  There she advised global and domestic clients regarding data privacy and data security issues throughout their data lifecycles, including privacy policies, cross-border data transfers, service provider management, data breach response, and information governance and record retention.  Ms. Guenther Frigo's background includes complex civil litigation, regulatory response, and international internal investigations, all skills and perspectives she actively incorporates into her privacy practice.


     

    Ronald J. Hedges, JD is the principal of Ronald J. Hedges LLC. He has extensive experience in e-discovery and in the management of complex litigation and has served as a special master, arbitrator and mediator. He also consults on management and discovery of electronically stored information (“ESI”).

    Mr. Hedges was a United States Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey from 1986 to 2007. While a magistrate judge, he was the Compliance Judge for the Court Mediation Program, a member of the Lawyers Advisory Committee, and both a member of, and reporter for, the Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Committee. From 2001 to 2005 he was a member of the Advisory Group of Magistrate Judges

    Klinger

    Joel Klinger is the Managing Director of Gimmal’s Northeast operation based in New York City.  Joel has over 25 years of experience in the information technology industry in addition to 10 years working as a public accountant and financial officer giving him an in-depth understanding of the importance of proper information governance and records management.  He has designed, assessed, implemented, and supported content and records management systems as well as other complex applications for clients in many industries including banking and finance, professional services, publishing & media, law, manufacturing, product distribution and e-commerce.

    Molfetta

    Lynn Molfetta, Global Head of Records Management at Deutsche Bank as of April 2016. Lynn brings over 20 years of experience across business process development and reengineering, business finance transformation, IT governance, strategic planning, and knowledge management.

    At Deutsche Bank, within the Group Records & Information Management Office (GIRM), her role is to ensure the effective implementation and establishment of records management policies, standards and controls across the Bank.
    Prior to joining Deutsche Bank she held similar roles at both Citigroup and American Express, as the global lead for Records Management, responsible for providing thought leadership and comprehensive program management oversight for the enterprise reorganization of the records management functions.

    Lynn lives in New York City with her 18 year-old son, Jonathan, and enjoys spending time with their beloved black Labrador retriever Rocco.

    Peck Headshot

    Magistrate Judge Andrew J. Peck was appointed United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of New York on February 27, 1995, and served as Chief Magistrate Judge in 2004-2005.  Judge Peck is co-chair of the S.D.N.Y.-E.D.N.Y. Local Rules Committee, and a member of the Second Circuit Federal-State Judicial Council.

    Judge Peck graduated with honors from Cornell University in 1974 and from Duke University School of Law in 1977, where he was an Editor of the Duke Law Journal. Judge Peck is a member of the Duke Law School Board of Visitors (2012 to Present).

    Judge Peck served as law clerk to Judge Paul Roney of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh (then-Fifth) Circuit, during the 1977-1978 term. Judge Peck was a litigator at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison from 1978-1995.

    Judge Peck is a frequent lecturer on issues relating to electronic discovery and is a member of the Sedona Conference and the Sedona Conference Judicial Advisory Board.  Judge Peck also is a judicial observer to the Legaltech Educational Advisory Board (2015 to present).  He was awarded the Champion of Technology Award for 2011 by Law Technology News, the 2013 Judicial Leadership Award by the Electronic Discovery Institute ("EDI"), and honored by the American Lawyer as a Judicial E-Discovery Innovator (in Top 50 Innovators of the Last 50 Years).

    In his spare time, Judge Peck is a member of the Baker Street Irregulars and other Sherlock Holmes societies.  Judge Peck also has served as a member of the Board of Directors and as Executive Vice President of the Mystery Writers of America, Inc.("MWA"), which awards the Edgar® Award each year for the best works in the mystery field, and currently is a member of the MWA New York Chapter Board of Directors.

    Rambaud

    JB Rambaud is a Partner/Principal in the Advisory Services practice of Ernst & Young (EY) LLP dedicated to the Wealth & Asset Management sector. He has over 20 years’ experience in a wide range of leadership roles ranging from building cyber and fraud businesses to CISO type roles. JB’s deep industry experience spans WAM, financial services, healthcare, professional services, utilities and telecommunications. JB is highly respected for his brilliant history of conceptualizing and delivering innovative and custom-tailored information security solutions to answer complex challenges. Clients rely on his proactive and protective approach to gauge organizational threats and in turn, his ability to coalesce the right team of skilled security professionals suited to the specific needs and culture of an organization.

    In his role, JB is a change agent and forward thinking thought-leader in the Cyber Security space. JB designs and implements cyber security strategy to drive risk based security resilience that has the most impact on the client current state cyber posture. His focus is on conceptualizing, creating, implementing and delivering custom-tailored security solutions contextualized and adaptive to the client’s business ecosystem.

    JB holds a number of information system certifications and is a member of the Information Security Systems Association and the Information Security and Control Association. He earned an MBA from Kansas State University and a BBA from the University of Angers in France.

    Lucy Rieger 

     

    Lucy Rieger, MLS, CRM, is the President of Library Update, Inc. is a law librarian, and manages all aspects of information services.  She has presented Records Retention Development Workshops with Sofia Empel annually at ARMA International Conferences since 2014, and is the current president of ARMA - Northern New Jersey Chapter.

    Zuvich

    Cindy Shea-Zuvich is the owner and principal of Unigrated Global, an information governance and records management service. In the past 22 years, she has worked with numerous companies from small to mid-size businesses to Fortune 500 companies in multi facets of information governance and records management. Her experience is as broad as it is deep from managing a variety of projects including legacy records remediation for hardcopy and electronic records, managing records segregation in acquisitions and divestitures, to developing strategies, roadmaps, and playbooks for standing up and maintaining a program. She has developed numerous policies, procedures, records retention schedules – the backbone of any information governance and records management program. Cindy has also taught adult classes in records management and was an adjunct professor at California State University, Dominquez Hills.

    Amie Taal

    Amie Taal is a remarkably talented and highly driven professional offering 30 years of experience working with computers and over twenty-five years’ experience as a digital forensic investigator. Amie is also an IT Security, eDiscovery, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence Specialist dealing with civil and criminal global and multi-jurisdictional matters within the public and private sectors.

    Watters-Farley

    Jennifer Watters Farley, CRM IGP ERMp,  is the Manager of Records and Information Management at Ropes & Gray LLP. She has spent her RM/IG career in the law firm industry. Jennifer’s previous education and experience as an actor gives her a unique perspective on the subject of public speaking and presentation.

    William Saffady is an independent records and information management consultant and researcher based in New York City. His latest books are Information Governance: Concepts, Requirements, Technology, published by ARMA International (the Association of Records Managers and Administrators) in 2017, and the third edition of Records and Information Management: Fundamentals of Professional Practice, the most widely used textbook on records management, which was published by ARMA International in 2016. Other recent books include Legal Requirements for Electronic Records Retention in Western Europe and Legal Requirements for Electronic Records Retention in Eastern Europe, both published by ARMA International in 2014; Legal Requirements for Electronic Records Retention in Asia, which was published by ARMA International in 2015; Email Retention and Archiving: Issues and Guidance for Compliance and Discovery, which was published by ARMA International in 2013; and Cost Analysis Concepts and Methods for Records Management Projects, Second Edition, which was published by ARMA International in 2011  

    Withers

    Kenneth Withers is the Deputy Executive Director of The Sedona Conference, an non-profit, non-partisan law and policy think tank based in Phoenix, AZ. Since 1989, Ken has published several widely-distributed papers on electronic discovery and given presentations before more than 500 judicial, legal, records management, and technology industry audiences. Among his more recent publications are “Ephemeral Data and the Duty to Preserve Discoverable Electronically Stored Information” in the University of Baltimore Law Review (2008); “Living Daily with Weekley Homes” in the Texas State Bar Advocate (Summer 2010); and “Risk Aversion, Risk Management, and the Overpreservation Problem in Electronic Discovery” in the South Carolina Law Review (2013). Ken is co-author, with Hon. Shira A. Scheindlin (ret.) and Prof. Daniel J. Capra, of the most widely-used law school textbook on electronic discovery and evidence.

    From 1999 through 2005, he was a Senior Education Attorney at the Federal Judicial Center in Washington D.C., and contributed to several well-known FJC publications, including the Manual for Complex Litigation, Fourth Edition (2004), Effective Use of Courtroom Technology (2001), and the Civil Litigation Management Manual (2001).

    Ken received his J.D. from Northwestern University, Chicago, and his Masters in Library Science from Simmons College, Boston.

    Karl Zoeckler

    Karl P. Zoeckler, CRM, VP Cybersecurity Governance, Risk & Control at JP MorganChase. Prior to JPMC, Karl worked at Morgan Stanley from 2007 where he was responsible for the firm’s Master Retention Schedule including the application and implementation of retention controls and coordination of disposition. He developed Morgan Stanley’s first archival metadata standard.

    Karl started his career with Bristol-Myers Squibb in Syracuse, NY in compound control, archives and scientific indexing. Karl joined Pfizer in 1998 and worked on a broad range of topics included policy & procedures, conversions, imaging, intellectual property, e-records management, content management, M & As, records retention, compliance, litigation, information security and scientific indexing.

    Karl holds a B.A. in Biology from Buffalo State University and a Certificate of Management from Central Connecticut State University. He is a past President of the Hartford/Springfield Chapter of ARMA (Association of Records Managers and Administrators) and is a former team leader in CENSA (Collaborative Electronic Notebook Systems Association). Karl is a Certified Records Manager.
