    BitmoGene Telegram - October 2018

my fellow denizens of digital data,

    stewards of information,

guardians of vaults and vital records!

I am BitmoGene, the much more handsome (and slightly sassy) digital alter-ego of the “real” Gene (if there is such a thing).  Pleased to make your acquaintance :)

As I inherit the duty of the monthly President’s message to our members and friends from my own good friend and predecessor, Mary Sherwin, I hope to be communicating with you regularly going forward, informing you of the latest happenings here at the ARMA Metro NYC Chapter.

As you know, the 2018-2019 season is well in full swing and we have been busy planning the year ahead.  We’ve already had some stellar events, starting with September's deep dive into the fascinating topic of analytics (September ARMA@Nite).  And just last week, in kicking off archives month, we were thrilled to be joined by Bridget Sisk of the U.N. Secretariat (yes that’s “U.N.” as in United Nations), to learn about the multi-faceted role records and archives play in … well, the dream of world peace.

    What the Wha??

As a reminder to those of you who’ve been hiding under a rock… er, I mean out of pocket… We produce several formats of top of the line educational content, including:

    • ARMA@Nite - our staple monthly evening dinner meetings featuring big-topic speakers

    • ARMA@Noon - our monthly noon lunch-and-learn sessions

    • Annual Conference - our flagship multi-track educational event that rivals national conferences in scale and scope, taking place every spring … keep an eye out for details and early-bird registration

As always, our live educational events are flush with scrumptious catered meals, and are book-ended with mingling and good old fashioned networking.  It’s a great opportunity to engage with like-minded information governance practitioners, meet new friends, and perhaps reconnect with old ones.

    Sneak Peek

This year we are also working on implementing a webcasting/webinar technology, to allow remote attendance at select  educational sessions.  We will be piloting this program shortly, and hope to roll it out over the next few weeks and months.

    No Dull Jacks Here

Hardly known as the “all work and no play” types, we also put on quite the evening with our famous winter and summer socials in appreciation of our members and sponsors, respectively.  All are welcome and it’s always an amazing time. Speaking of amazing times, one of the super fun engagements we’ll be developing this year is our flash mob karaoke parties.  Yes, I’m serious.  And it’s actually a pretty complex process, so try to stay with me here:

    1. We blast #flashmobkaraoke with a soon-to-be gathering date/time/location

    2. You show up to said location on date/time

    3. We all sing (it looks something like this):

As you can see, there is literally something for everyone!  So as you mull over your options, do me a favor and drop me a note at, and let me know if you like what you’re reading, or would like more information on our live and/or webinar educational events.  I’d love to hear your feedback. And speaking of engaging …

    Volunteer and Benefit

We get it.  There’s a lot going on in your professional, family and social lives.  We have those too (some more than others).  But volunteering for your local ARMA chapter affords you tremendous opportunities in professional development, networking and new friendships that you would simply not get an opportunity to experience otherwise.  Why not take a closer look at all we have to offer:  And in turn, offer us your creative energy and fresh perspective on how to help lead our profession into the next generation.  It’s a match made in heaven.

Calling All ARMA Live! 2018 Conference Attendees

Hear ye, hear ye!  If ye are a member of this glorious collection of … umm ... other members, and are registered for the annual conference in Anaheim, won’t you please join us for a networking reception at the following location and time:

The Hall of Regions (Northeast Region booth)
    Monday, October 22nd 5:00pm-6:00pm

And if you’re not a member of ARMA Metro NYC, stop by and have a drink, and let me personally convince you why not being a member is such a terrible idea.

    Partner Events and Programs

On behalf of the Board of Directors, hope to see you at a chapter event soon!
